From Drone Data to Smarter Land Management
Real-World Drone Solutions for Forestry and Agriculture
October 20, 15:00-16:30 (CEST)
What's this Webinar About
We invited 3 experts to join us for a technical deep dive into three real-world UAV LiDAR applications across forestry, precision agriculture, and land management:
Topic 1. From Tree-Trunk Mapping to Autonomous Mowing (Lucas Günther, Airclip, Germany)
Discover how UAV LiDAR can support tree nursery management and autonomous agricultural operations. Using the DJI Matrice 400 and Zenmuse L3, this project maps individual trunks across a 100-hectare plantation of ornamental conifers and fruit-tree stock.
Learn how LiDAR point-cloud classification and slicing can be used for tree nursery trunk mapping, no-go zone mapping, and autonomous mowing path planning — ultimately generating georeferenced, CAD-ready DXF files for integration into downstream workflows.
--------------------
Topic 2. LiDAR for Agricultural Land Reclamation & Reorganization (Roberto Pargalia & Daniele Zanini, Italy)
Take a closer look at an apple orchard land reclamation and reorganization project in Val di Non, Italy, where UAV LiDAR supports complex terrain engineering in steep and fragmented agricultural areas.
Using the DJI Matrice 400, Zenmuse L3, and DJI Terra, the project delivers a 25 cm engineering-grade DTM for slope and hydraulic design, alongside classified point clouds, orthophotos, contour maps, and volume calculations. See how these outputs support earthwork planning, slope stabilization, hydraulic infrastructure, and agricultural land reorganization.
----------------------
Topic 3. High-Accuracy Terrain and Vegetation Mapping in Dense Forests (Luka Zalovic, Geo-centar, Croatia)
Explore how the DJI Zenmuse L3 can capture detailed terrain and vegetation information even in dense, leaf-on forest environments.
Learn how LiDAR data can be used to generate DTM, DSM, and CHM maps for dense forests, including all-season, leaf-on forest mapping. The project also demonstrates how the resulting data can achieve centimeter-level accuracy validated with GCPs.
