As one of the world’s largest producers of pineapples, DOLE Philippines has long been a pioneer in the agricultural industry. With its expansive 24,000-hectare farm, the company delivers premium pineapples to markets across North America, Europe, and Asia.

In its continuous pursuit of innovation and operational excellence, DOLE introduced DJI Dock 2—an advanced automated drone solution. This forward-thinking integration has further strengthened the company’s farm management approach, enhancing both security oversight and overall efficiency.

1. Smart Management Solutions for Large-Scale Plantations

The globally renowned fruit producer Dole has adopted DJI’s Dock 2 to further enhance operational efficiency across its expansive 24,000-hectare pineapple plantations in the Philippines, which yielded 2.94 million metric tons in 2023. This initiative is part of Dole’s broader commitment to leveraging technology to optimize field management and strengthen oversight in remote areas.

To support more proactive and responsive operations, the company sought a solution that could offer real-time monitoring and rapid response capabilities. By integrating DJI Dock 2, Dole is streamlining its security workflows and empowering its teams with faster, smarter decision-making tools in the field.

2. The DJI Dock 2 Solution

Dole now integrates autonomous drones to complement human efforts. Seven DJI Dock 2 units provide 24/7 surveillance, night vision, and long-range detection across high-risk zones, even during heavy rain.

Real-time aerial data allows ground teams to respond swiftly to incidents, with drones monitoring areas up to a kilometer away. The system has already strengthened security in Mindanao’s Polomolok South Cotabato region, prompting plans to expand usage in Bukidnon in northern Mindanao. Dole also explores remote monitoring for global sites, including potential operations in Sierra Leone managed from the Philippines.

3.  Immediate Impact and Results

The introduction of the DJI Dock 2 yielded remarkable results. Even during the initial testing phase, drones detected active theft attempts, allowing security teams to respond swiftly. Within four months of full-scale operation, multiple criminals were apprehended, significantly reducing plantation theft. As a result, DOLE reported increased profitability and improved yield protection.

Moreover, drones operated seamlessly during adverse weather conditions, a frequent shortcoming for traditional security methods. With enhanced surveillance capabilities, DOLE minimized financial losses and ensured the continuous protection of its agricultural assets.

4.  Looking Ahead: DOLE’s Expansion Plans

Buoyed by the success of DJI Dock 2, DOLE is now planning to adopt the upgraded DJI Dock 3. The expansion is planned to cover all Philippine farm operations, further enhancing security coverage and automation. Additionally, DOLE intends to replicate this security model across its different sites in Asia and Africa, with centralized monitoring from its Philippines headquarters.

This ambitious strategy positions DOLE as a pioneer in utilizing automatic drone technology for agricultural security. By staying at the forefront of innovation, DOLE remains committed to ensuring the safety of its assets while driving operational excellence.

By minimizing losses and optimizing labor, Dole Philippines aims to protect its multimillion-dollar pineapple output while advancing sustainable, tech-integrated farming practices.
